When it comes to search engine optimization meta tags there are a few question website owners typically ask. Does each individual web page need a different title? Is there a maximum length for title tags? Is there a title tag limit? Are title search engine meta tags a good idea? How to use meta tags?

The World Wide Web Consortium requires that every single HTML document must have a title element in the head section. They also state that the title element should be used to identify each individual pages content.

YAHOO: A BRIEF HISTORY OF YAHOO! WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

In January of 1994, two graduate students at Stanford University, Jerry Yang and David Filo created what we know today as Yahoo Originally named Jerrys Guide to the World Wide Web, Yahoo was a directory that organized other web sites into a hierarchy. The history of Yahoo begins.

Unlike other search engines, Yahoo gained swift popularity. Just twelve months after its creation, Yang and Filo had over one million hits on their year old search engine. The sheer volume of people using it prompted Filo and Yang to incorporate Yahoo early in 1995

The name Yahoo however, was already taken by other enterprises; Filo and Yang were forced to add the exclamation mark in order to trademark it.

THE DARK SIDE OF SEO: BLACK HAT SEO

Search engines are not infallible. We have all, at some point in our searching lives, found a link on the web that seemed interesting or helpful but when clicked were disappointed to find that the destination page was rubbish. Not only is it frustrating but a complete waste of time.

To receive a good ranking, some web page designers use spamdexing or as we like to call it black hat seo. Spamdexing or black hat seo techniques are the use of various methods to deliberately manipulate HTML pages to artificially increase their positioning on the search engines results page.

GOOGLE CAME FROM THIN AIR? THE HISTORY OF GOOGLE

The date was September 7, 1998. The event, two Stanford University students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, co-founded Google, a company they started as part of a research project in January 1996. The company was first incorporated as a privately held company but become public August 4, 2004 raising 1.6 billion dollars. The history of google had just begun.

Googles mission statement is, to organize the world information and make it universally accessible and useful. Few companies follow through with their mission as well as Google.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin created Google on the hypothesis that a search engine that analyzed the relationships between the different websites could get better results then the techniques in that currently existed, which essentially ranked results according to the number of times the search term appeared on a page.

There is a need in all humans to feel connected with one another, to interact with others and to be able to relate to another person. Social media optimization thrives on that need. Social media is all about communication. Its about sharing perspectives, insights, experiences and opinions with one another via blogs, wikis, message boards, and videos.

While SEO is still an effective means to gain traffic, the web is no longer two dimensional. It has evolved. Its become increasingly interactive, taken on a three dimensional shape. One that caters to our visual and audio senses, and allows web browsers to have more control over what they see, hear, and, what is hot.

HISTORY OF THE SEARCH ENGINE – WHAT CAME BEFORE GOOGLE?

Although we credit Google, Yahoo, and other major search engines for giving us the system we use to find the information we seek, the concept of hypertext came to life in 1945 when Vannaver Bush urged scientist to work together to help build a body of knowledge for all man kind. He then proposed the idea of a virtually limitless, fast, reliable, extensible, associative memory storage and retrieval system. He named this device a memex. But there is a long list of great minds that have given us the information system we now use today. This article illustrates some of them.
